How to change the pH of a solution?

Please explain the steps in detail.

How many different ways are there in total? How to change the pH of a solution?
pH is based on the dissociation of water into hydrogen or hydroxyl ions. When the two are equally balanced, you have a neutral pH of 7.00. An excess of Hydrogen ion causes the solution to be acidic and an excess of hydroxyl ion causes the solution to be basic or alkaline. Therefore, there are just two ways to change the pH of a solution:

1). Cause an excess of hydrogen ions in the solution

2). Cause an excess of hydroxyl ions in the solution

Other ions have acidic or alkaline properties even tho they are not hydrogen or hydroxyl ions by themselves. But the END RESULT is the same, regardless. How to change the pH of a solution?
pH is an indicator of acidity and alkalinity, so therefore if you desire the solution to be more acidic...add more acid. and vice versa.
